Objective:

Our objective is to increase the efficiency of your fleet of vehicles in the various operations and we feel that we would be able to reduce the operating costs; being mainly diesel consumption and maintenance. We usually have a 5 litres/100 km decrease in overall average consumption. This is the minimum requirement we have set ourselves, while we understand your various operations.  Presently with different problems, we look forward to meeting these challenges and to form a partnership with a common goal.

Method:

We will only achieve these results though a partnership between you, the drivers and the nominated SLC Instructor as per your request. We will be focusing on all economical driving techniques and/or any special requests made by yourselves as your experience and knowledge in these different operations is vital to the success of this partnership.

  • Comprehensive Inspection of the vehicle to identify any potential problem or item that could lead  to an unnecessary expense or cost to you.

  • Drivers attitude - We all need to work towards our goal as a collective effort and we need co-operation from all drivers

  • Truck and cab cleanliness - We believe that this is a state of mind and that a clean truck is generally a well driven and economical truck

  • Safety -  All safety aspects including use of seatbelts, mirrors, steep or dangerous stretches of road and various defensive driving techniques

  • Gear usage - correct use of gears and appropriate speeds to reduce the amount of gear changes per kilometre, wear and tear and fuel wastage.

  • Retardation - The route on specific downhills, correct retarder application, RPM and stage usage in dry and wet conditions must be 100%

  • Foot brake - We encourage minimal use of footbrake, just to bring the vehicle to a complete stop in most cases.

  • Green Band Engine RPM - It is critical for maximum fuel efficientcy.

  • Momentum - The weight of the load can be used to assist on up-hills by using the concept of momentum.

  • Trailer brake usage - we monitor the usage, roll backs and appropriate use in wet slippery conditions.

A daily report on each driver's evaluation would be available within 24hrs of the training via email and each driver will receive a certificate of competency which will be valid for 24 months from date of issue.

Driver Training:

We propose a continuous training program to cover all the drivers initially, each covering about 200km.  If we encounter a driver of a poor standard we may request an additional day at your discretion to correct any serious problems.

We would also like to have access to information from any Driver Management Tracking System to see how the vehicles are being driven when we are not in the vehicle to help identify any problem areas.

All training is done on normal company routes.

Costs:

The cost per driver per shift will be R1200 and R3.00 per km for travel.

Conclusion:

We believe in the concept of an ongoing partnership and improving all driver skill levels, while reducing the costs and we value your business as our own.
